At Amanzimtoti Baptist Church, our vision is not merely a statement—it is a practical roadmap for growing together in Christ. As we look ahead, we are focusing on strengthening our leadership, ministries, and capacity for discipleship as God continues to grow our church family.

As part of this vision, we are seeking to appoint an Associate Pastor who will help support the pastoral, discipleship, and ministry needs of our growing congregation. We are also continuing to develop our music ministry under the leadership of our Worship Director and are exploring plans to extend our sanctuary to accommodate our growing community.

Looking ahead, we are focusing on strengthening fellowship, discipleship, and meaningful connection within our church family. To this end, we are developing regular men’s and women’s monthly gatherings designed to welcome and integrate new attendees, foster authentic Christian fellowship, and help people discover their God-given purpose and place in God’s mission through the local church.

We also seek to ensure that every member is meaningfully connected to a service team, fellowship group, or ministry. We believe that active involvement in the life of the church is vital because it:

• Deepens spiritual growth through biblical teaching, prayer, fellowship, and discipleship.

• Builds meaningful community where members support, encourage, and strengthen one another in Christ.

• Empowers service and mission, providing opportunities for every believer to use their gifts to bless others and advance God’s Kingdom.

Mission

We are humbly striving to make a unique contribution to the advancement of God’s Kingdom in Amanzimtoti as a member church of the Baptist Union of Southern Africa.

Vision

Amanzimtoti Baptist Church is a family of believers in Jesus Christ committed to bringing the Gospel into the homes of our community. We believe that Christ in the home is key to seeing the Gospel flourish throughout our community. Therefore, we seek to serve families in Spirit and in truth, equipping and empowering them to serve others.

We exist to worship the Lord, love and serve families through God’s Spirit and His Word, and together meet the spiritual and practical needs of our community.

One God

There is one God: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; who subsist in unity, and also as three separate distinct Persons (John 14:7–16; Genesis 1:1; 1:26–27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 40:28–29; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

Jesus Christ, God’s Son

Jesus Christ is God’s Son. He was born of a virgin as both God and man, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of human beings, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and will literally return to earth (Matthew 1:22–23; Isaiah 9:6; 53:5–6; John 1:1–5; 14:10–30; Hebrews 4:14–15; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Romans 1:3–4; Acts 1:9–11; 1 Timothy 6:14–15; Titus 2:13).

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the divine helper, assistant, counselor and instructor and His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, lead to repentance, guide believers, comfort, strengthen, and sanctify the soul (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7–13; 14:16–17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; 5:25; Galatians 5:25).

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Holy Word, without error, and is the sole authority for life (Psalm 119:105; Romans 15:4; 2 Peter 1:20–21; 2 Timothy 3:16).

Created Man’s Need for God

Human beings are the special creations of God, made in His image. They fell through the sin of the first man, Adam, and all human beings are sinners in need of salvation (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3–6; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1–2; Romans 3:23).

Salvation

Salvation is a gift through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Every person who truly is saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ and will spend eternity in heaven, while those who die in their sins will spend eternity in hell (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8–9; John 14:6; 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1).

Baptism

Baptism is by immersion after salvation and is done in obedience to Jesus Christ’s command (Matthew 3:15–17; Acts 2:38).

Believer’s Access to God

Each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:14–16; 7:19; Ephesians 3:12).

The Church

The Church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head (Matthew 16:18; Acts 20:27–29; 1 Corinthians 12:27–29; Ephesians 1:21–23; 3:20–22; 4:1–3; 5:21–27; Colossians 1:17–19).

Acts 2:44 captures one of the great principles of the Christian church as it says, “And all who believed were together and had all things in common.” While we esteem and celebrate the uniqueness of every member of our Amanzimtoti Baptist church family, we unapologetically value six core areas in the life of our church. Together, these shared values identify who we are, rally us toward all that we desire to accomplish, and unite us in fellowship.

EXCELLENCE – “… to glorify God …”

The Amanzimtoti Baptist family believes that honouring God with our very best is an essential quality of Christian living. Through all of our ministry programming and campus facilities, we strive to display excellence in all things to the glory of God. Great care is taken to ensure a wonderful, worshipful environment in every area of ministry.

EVANGELISM – “… by introducing Jesus Christ as Lord …”

Under the direct commission of Jesus Christ, Amanzimtoti Baptist exists to reach those in our neighbourhoods and around the world who have yet to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Our church programming, services and ministry models all point toward sharing the message of the Gospel with individuals and families. We provide multiple opportunities to invite unbelieving friends and family members to hear the Gospel. And every member of the church is challenged to share their faith daily in work, schools and social settings.

ENGAGEMENT – “… to as many people as possible …”

The joyful responsibility of every member of Amanzimtoti Baptist includes fully engaging in the life of the church. We ask and expect members to faithfully volunteer in multiple areas of church ministry. We challenge every member to participate in mission activity. And finally, we believe that every member has a financial responsibility to support the work of Christ on earth through the Church. By participating in each of these areas of service, a member will experience the fullness of this church fellowship.

EQUIPPING – “… and to develop them in Christian living …”

One of the great passions of this church family is to intentionally share in the process of Christian growth and development of individuals and families. Amanzimtoti Baptist offers many outlets for discipleship—personally and corporately. Workshops are offered on weekends and throughout the week to strengthen the faith of those who believe, and to encourage those who are on a journey toward faith.

EXPANSION – “… using the most effective means to impact the world …”

Amanzimtoti Baptist is committed to using new and innovative strategies to reach people for Christ. Locally, Amanzimtoti Baptist through her pre-school ministry reaches out to families with the same message. In addition, we partner with the KwaZulu-Natal Baptist Network connecting with pastors and church leaders in our province for the Kingdom sake. This network expands the work of the church exponentially and helps plant new churches in strategic points around the province. Notwithstanding our support of the Baptist Union of Southern Africa with mission and ministry.

ENCOURAGEMENT – “… making an eternal difference in this generation …”

Beyond growth in faith, we believe in the whole development of every individual, and strive to be an encouraging and comforting body of believers. Amanzimtoti Baptist exists for people … those here and those yet to come. As we develop our people in Christian living, we desire to see individuals and families strengthened by the love shared among the people of this church.

Transparency & Accountability

At Amanzimtoti Baptist Church (ABC), we believe that integrity, accountability, and sound theological guidance are foundational to our ministry. We are fully registered with the Baptist Union of Southern Africa, https://baptistunion.org.za/ which provides us with theological oversight, guidance on ministry conduct, and a broader community of support within the Baptist tradition. Being part of this larger family helps ensure that our teaching, governance, and pastoral care remain consistent with a robust Baptist heritage, especially in a time when independent churches without denominational accountability are increasingly common.

In addition to our union membership, ABC complies with all government requirements, including non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) regulations. We conduct an Annual General Meeting (AGM) where leadership presents detailed reports on church activities, finances, and strategic plans. Our financial statements are prepared according to accepted standards and are available to members, reflecting careful stewardship of resources.

ABC is committed to openness, integrity, and accountability—not just in words, but in action—because we serve a real God, a real congregation, and are part of a wider family that ensures our ministry stays faithful and responsible.

Our Worship, Prayer, and Spiritual Practices 

We’re glad you’re exploring our church! Our goal is to worship God faithfully, pray intentionally, and build up His people. On this page, we explain both what we practice and what we do not practice—with biblical and historical reasoning—so you can understand our approach before visiting or joining a service.

1. Why We Do Not Speak in Tongues or Practice Modern Prophecy 

                                                                       Biblical Basis

• 1 Corinthians 13:8 – “Love never ends; as for prophecy, it will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease…” (ESV)
  This shows that certain gifts were temporary and served specific purposes in the early church.

• 1 Corinthians 14:26–28 – Paul instructs that if tongues are spoken, interpretation is required, otherwise the church should be silent. Worship must edify the body, not cause confusion.

• Acts 2:1–13 – Tongues at Pentecost were a sign for unbelievers from other nations, demonstrating God’s power. Outside these historical contexts, the New Testament does not present tongues or prophecy as normative today.

                                                                   Theological Perspective

• Cessationism: Gifts like prophecy and tongues were primarily for the apostolic era to authenticate the gospel (Grudem & Gundry, Are Miraculous Gifts for Today?, Zondervan, 1996).

• Scriptural Sufficiency: With the Bible complete, God’s Word is now the final authority (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

                                                                          Pastoral Perspective

• Our church does not require or expect experiences of tongues or prophecy.

• We encourage Scripture-centered worship and prayer that builds up all members

2. How We Worship and Pray

 A. Worship: Glorifying God in Spirit and Truth

• John 4:24 – Worship in “spirit and truth.”

• Worship at Totibaptist focuses on:

  1. Preaching and Teaching: Equipping believers through God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

  2. Singing and Music: Hymns and spiritual songs to praise God (Ephesians 5:19).

  3. Sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26).

  4. Corporate Prayer: Prayer that is clear, communal, and edifying (1 Corinthians 14:15–17).

 B. Prayer: Connecting with God Intentionally

• 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing.

• Practices include:

  • Personal Prayer: Daily prayer for guidance, confession, and thanksgiving.

  • Corporate Prayer: Interceding for the church and community.

  • Pastoral/Intercessory Prayer: Led by pastors and prayer teams, grounded in Scripture.

  C. Spirit-Led Service

• Spiritual gifts like faith, teaching, service, and encouragement continue today (Romans 12:6–8; Ephesians 4:11–13), empowering believers to glorify God and serve one another.

3. Theological and Practical Principles

1. Scripture is Final Authority – All practices are tested against God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

2. Worship and Prayer Must Edify – Activities must build up the church body (1 Corinthians 14:26–33).

3. God’s Glory is Central – Everything we do seeks to honor Christ and encourage His people (Colossians 3:16–17).

3. What This Means Practically

Our Baptist principles are not just theological ideas—they shape how we live, worship, and serve in Amanzimtoti every day. Here’s what they mean in practice:

A. Christ as Head of the Church

• No apostles, popes, or modern-day prophets lead our church.

• All authority rests with Jesus Christ. Every teaching, decision, and initiative points to Him.

• This keeps the church Christ-centered, not personality-centered.

B. Congregational Governance

• Leadership is shared and accountable.

• Members are equipped to serve in ministry, not just follow a single leader.

• You have a voice and a vote in church decisions, reflecting the priesthood of all believers.

C. Mission and Community Engagement

• We actively serve our local community—families, youth, schools, and neighborhoods.

• While we speak to government and engage civil matters, the church is separate from the state, maintaining our spiritual freedom and obedience to Christ.

D. Equipping and Empowering Others

• Ministries focus on training and enabling members to grow in faith and service.

• No ministry revolves around one personality; instead, the church functions as a body of believers working together (1 Corinthians 12:12–27).

E. A Church for Everyone

• Every believer can contribute their gifts, share opinions, and participate fully.

• This ensures a healthy, vibrant, and accountable community where God’s Kingdom is advanced through collective effort, not individual charisma.

Why We Preach the Way We Do

At Totibaptist Church, we believe that God’s Word should shape God’s people. When we gather as a church, our desire is not simply to be inspired or entertained, but to hear what God has said and to respond in faith and obedience.

Our Commitment to Bible-Centred Preaching

We practice what is often called expositional preaching. This simply means that our sermons aim to explain and apply the meaning of a biblical passage in its context, allowing Scripture itself to set the message.

Rather than starting with our own ideas, we seek to let God speak through His Word.

“Preach the word” (2 Timothy 4:2)

Why We Preach Through Books and Passages of the Bible

We believe this approach serves the church well because:

• God’s Word is sufficient to bring about real and lasting life change (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

• Spiritual growth is usually slow and deep, shaped over time as God’s truth takes root in our hearts (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).

• It teaches believers how to read the Bible for themselves, not just rely on a preacher (Acts 17:11).

• It exposes us to the whole counsel of God, including passages we might otherwise avoid (Acts 20:27).

• Scripture speaks to every area of life, shaping our thinking, desires, and actions according to God’s will.

What We Are Not Aiming to Do

While stories, experiences, and topical messages can sometimes be helpful, they are not our primary focus.

• Personal stories are limited; God’s Word is unchanging (Isaiah 40:8).

• Self-help messages may encourage temporarily, but only God’s Word transforms deeply (Hebrews 4:12).

• Christian books can be helpful, but only Scripture is inspired by God.

When the church gathers, we believe it is right to centre ourselves on the Bible.

What This Means for You

This kind of preaching may not always feel immediately dramatic, but over time it:

• strengthens faith

• builds spiritual discernment

• anchors hope in Christ

• helps believers grow in obedience

We encourage everyone to listen prayerfully and to engage with God’s Word throughout the week.
